The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) will overhaul its computer curriculum after 13 years. The updated syllabus will introduce AI, Machine Learning, Cybersecurity, and IoT from the 2026-27 academic session.
Gandhinagar: In a major step towards modernising school education, the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) has announced a comprehensive revision of the computer syllabus after a gap of 13 years.
The updated curriculum will be implemented from the 2026–27 academic year and will include advanced and industry-relevant topics such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Cybersecurity, and the Internet of Things (IoT).
Focus on Future-Ready Skills
According to officials, the syllabus update aims to bridge the gap between school education and rapidly evolving technology trends. Students will gain exposure to modern computing concepts that are increasingly in demand across higher education and the global job market.
• Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning fundamentals
• Basics of Cybersecurity and data protection
• Internet of Things (IoT) concepts and applications
• Updated programming tools and digital skills
Why the Change Matters
The current computer syllabus had remained largely unchanged for over a decade, despite major advancements in technology. Education experts believe the new curriculum will enhance students’ analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and digital awareness from an early stage.
The move is also aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP), which emphasises skill-based learning and the integration of technology into education.
Implementation Timeline
GSHSEB officials confirmed that textbooks, teacher training, and evaluation methods will be updated well in advance to ensure a smooth rollout of the revised syllabus in schools across Gujarat.
This landmark decision is expected to significantly improve the quality of computer education and prepare Gujarat’s students for future careers in technology and innovation
